Today we were visited by Lestyn, he spoke about how he was one of the designers who rebranded Wales, coming up with a typeface for Wales and producing a strong identity for the Country and to improve their popularity and tourism. Originally when he was younger and Wales became independent him and fellow designers of that era were planning on rebranding Wales although the idea was highly frowned upon by the government. They returned with the idea again when they were much older and were finally approved, he spoke up how if you have an idea we shouldn't always give up as sometimes good things can take time.
Below is a screen grab from the This Is Wales website, along with a few pages from the brochure he showed us in class promoting Wales. Looking through the booklet he stated how important it was to keep to a colour palette, font and the spacing between everything! He especially mentioned the difference between spacing between text as it can make such a difference to if it is successful or not. It was interesting to see the process he went through after he pitched an idea and has also made me realise that projects can take some time to be successful, even years! I found this lecture really helpful as it prepares me for work I may produce In the future and how to go about producing it.
